RM1.9 Million Seizure: Police Crack Down on Illegal Frozen Food Syndicate in Subang
KUALA LUMPUR — A major enforcement operation by the Royal Malaysia Police has dismantled an illegal frozen food syndicate in Kampung Baru Subang, Selangor, with total seizures valued at approximately RM1.9 million.
The coordinated raids targeted three separate premises, where authorities uncovered 97 boxes of frozen chicken without halal certification along with 34 tonnes of pork carcasses, initially estimated at RM1.5 million.
According to Mohd Zaki Ashar, commander of the Wildlife Crime Bureau under the Internal Security and Public Order Department, the operation was carried out in collaboration with multiple enforcement agencies.
These included the Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia, Ministry of Health Malaysia and Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Malaysia, alongside the Inland Revenue Board, MAQIS and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.
32 Arrested, Including Company Owners
Authorities detained 32 individuals aged between 22 and 59, including three company owners and managers believed to be directly linked to the operation.
All suspects have been taken to the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters for further investigation. Several enforcement agencies also issued compounds for multiple offences uncovered during the raids.
In addition to the food products, officers seized three one-tonne lorries and weighing equipment, raising the total value of confiscated items.
Syndicate Disrupted in Klang Valley
Police believe the operation has effectively crippled a syndicate involved in smuggling, distributing and selling illegal frozen food products across the Klang Valley.
The case highlights concerns not only over regulatory compliance but also food safety and consumer sensitivity, particularly regarding halal status.
Authorities to Intensify Enforcement
Officials have pledged to strengthen monitoring and enforcement efforts to prevent similar activities from recurring.
Inter-agency cooperation will continue to play a key role in safeguarding food supply chains and ensuring compliance with national laws and safety standards.
