Razib Salimin Describes Brush With Death During Remp-It 2 Stunt

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 8 — Veteran Malaysian stunt performer Razib Salimin has recounted a harrowing incident in which he narrowly escaped death while performing a dangerous stunt during the filming of Remp-It 2 in 2022.

Now 66, Razib said the incident occurred when he doubled for the lead actor in a high-impact car collision scene filmed at roughly 40km/h. Despite raising concerns about safety and vehicle specifications beforehand, the production proceeded with the stunt.

After the first take failed to meet expectations, a second attempt was made. During the second take, Razib suddenly lost consciousness and was thrown onto the road while the vehicle was still in motion.

“I was unconscious for almost 10 minutes. The crew believed I had died because they couldn’t detect a pulse,” he said, adding that he sustained serious facial injuries requiring stitches near his right eye.

Footage from the scene later showed him collapsing while unconscious, a moment he described as being perilously close to death.

A Career Rooted in Discipline

Originally from Melaka, Razib began his career as a police officer at 19 and later represented the Royal Malaysia Police in rugby before transitioning into private security work and eventually the film industry.

He later dedicated himself fully to stunt performance and assistant directing, driven by a desire to train local talent and strengthen Malaysia’s action film ecosystem.

Call for Better Industry Standards

Razib has voiced concern over the low remuneration received by stunt performers in Malaysia, saying current rates do not reflect the danger involved. Nevertheless, he remains encouraged by the growing interest among younger performers and continues to mentor new talent.

Still Going Strong at 66

At 66, Razib remains actively involved in physically demanding stunt roles, attributing his endurance to mental discipline, controlled eating habits and strong spiritual grounding.

“Age doesn’t define ability,” he said. “As long as I’m capable, I’ll continue.”
