PKR Women Ready to Take on Key Role in Johor State Election Campaign

KUALA LUMPUR: The women’s wing of the People’s Justice Party (PKR) has pledged to play a significant role in preparations for the upcoming Johor state election, with members ready to serve either as candidates or as part of the party’s grassroots campaign machinery.

Its chief, Fadhlina Sidek, said the movement is fully prepared to contribute across all levels of the campaign as Pakatan Harapan (PH) intensifies preparations for the crucial state poll.

According to Fadhlina, the coalition’s immediate priority is to identify and field candidates who possess strong credentials, public appeal and the ability to secure victory while effectively serving constituents.

She said preparations are progressing steadily through close cooperation among all PH component parties.

“PKR Women will have an important presence in every state constituency, whether through candidacy or through active participation in grassroots operations and campaign activities,” she said.

“Our focus is to ensure that the best candidates are selected—individuals who can win the people’s confidence and deliver meaningful service to the community.”

She made the remarks after officiating the International Symposium on Literature, Translation and Artificial Intelligence (LiTr.AI) at the headquarters of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka in Kuala Lumpur.

Fadhlina, who is also the Member of Parliament for Nibong Tebal, noted that women now play an increasingly influential role in electoral politics and party organisation.

She said women’s participation extends beyond traditional support functions and has become an essential component in shaping electoral success and strengthening party engagement with local communities.

The remarks come after Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly, paving the way for the 16th Johor state election.

Following the dissolution, PH Johor—which comprises PKR, Democratic Action Party and Parti Amanah Negara—confirmed that existing election preparations would continue without interruption.

Further discussions on seat allocations, campaign strategies and coalition arrangements are expected to be elevated to the PH Presidential Council for final consideration.

Political observers believe women’s wings will play a crucial role in voter outreach efforts, particularly in strengthening grassroots engagement and helping political parties connect more effectively with local communities throughout the campaign period.
