PH Says Campaign Momentum Remains Strong Despite Marina Ibrahim’s Remarks

BATU PAHAT: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has maintained that recent remarks made by former Skudai assemblyman Marina Ibrahim have not affected the coalition’s campaign efforts in the Johor state election, saying support from grassroots members and voters continues to remain encouraging.

PH Communications Director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the coalition has continued to receive positive public response throughout its campaign activities across Johor, indicating that confidence among supporters has remained intact despite political statements made during the election period.

Speaking after a meet-and-greet session with residents of Kampung Istana in Batu Pahat, Fahmi said attendance at PH programmes over recent days reflected sustained grassroots backing and dismissed suggestions that Marina’s comments had weakened the coalition’s election campaign.

According to him, campaign activities conducted in several constituencies have continued to attract support from local communities, demonstrating that PH’s election machinery remains active ahead of polling day.

His comments followed claims made by Marina Ibrahim, who previously alleged that a DAP leader had expressed support for granting former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak a royal pardon as well as allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

Marina had said the conversation influenced her confidence in politics and rejected suggestions that her departure from active politics was related to constituency changes or dissatisfaction over candidate selection.

Responding to the issue, Fahmi said the remarks did not alter PH’s campaign strategy or affect the coalition’s engagement with voters during the election period.

The Communications Minister also observed that political support should not be regarded as permanent, arguing that no political party or coalition possesses a guaranteed voter base regardless of previous electoral performance.

As an example, he referred to remarks by former UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi, who recently expressed support for a PH candidate contesting the Rengit state seat.

According to Fahmi, such developments illustrate that political support continues to evolve based on current circumstances and voter considerations rather than remaining fixed with any particular party.

With campaigning entering its final stages before polling day, PH said it will continue focusing on direct engagement with voters and presenting its policies across all constituencies it is contesting in the Johor state election.

The coalition maintains that grassroots outreach and continued interaction with local communities remain central to its campaign as it seeks voter support ahead of the upcoming polls.
