Perak Assembly Seating to Remain Unchanged as State Sitting Approaches
IPOH, April 10 — The seating arrangement for members of the Perak State Legislative Assembly will remain unchanged when the upcoming sitting convenes next week, as no formal requests for adjustments have been submitted.
Speaker Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid confirmed that the current seating plan will be maintained for the First Meeting of the Fourth Year of the 15th Perak State Assembly, scheduled to begin on April 14.
He stated that any modifications to seating positions would require official applications, which have not been received to date.
“As of now, there are no requests to alter seating arrangements, so the existing layout will be retained,” he said during a press briefing.
Party Developments Do Not Automatically Trigger Changes
The issue has drawn attention following disciplinary action taken against several leaders from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in Perak, including Sungai Manik assemblyman Zainol Fadzi Paharudin.
Despite these developments, the Speaker clarified that internal party decisions do not automatically result in changes within the assembly chamber.
Instead, any adjustment to seating must be formally proposed and reviewed before being implemented.
Technical Constraints Limit Last-Minute Adjustments
Mohammad Zahir emphasised that altering seating arrangements close to the start of the sitting would be difficult due to technical considerations.
The chamber’s audio systems, microphones and video recording infrastructure have been configured according to the current seating layout, making last-minute changes complex and potentially disruptive.
Even if requests were submitted, they would need to be carefully assessed to ensure they do not interfere with the assembly’s operations.
Six-Day Sitting to Address Key Issues
The Perak State Assembly sitting will run for six days from April 14 to April 21 and will be officiated by Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.
Each day will include a one-hour oral question session, allowing assembly members to raise issues and seek clarification from the state government.
Debates will also be held on the motion of thanks for the royal address, providing an opportunity for broader policy discussions.
Focus on Policy Reforms and Strategic Committees
Several key motions are expected to be tabled, including amendments to the assembly’s Standing Orders and the formation of select committees.
These committees will focus on strategic areas such as an ageing population, urban poverty, smart city development and food security.
In addition, the National Forestry Act (Amendment) Enactment 2022 (Adoption 2026) Bill is scheduled to be presented on the final day of the sitting.
The session is expected to proceed smoothly, with the unchanged seating arrangement ensuring continuity and stability throughout the proceedings.
