Pasukan Gerakan Am Releases 34 Students Who Used Illegal Border Routes on Bail
PASIR MAS: A total of 34 students who were detained for crossing Sungai Golok through illegal routes to attend school were released on police bail last night.
The group, aged between seven and 16, included secondary and primary school students, as well as those from religious schools, and were freed at about 11.30pm.
Staggered Release Process
According to a family representative, parents were allowed to take their children home after completing the required bail forms.
The release was carried out in stages at the Pasir Mas district police headquarters, where parents had been waiting.
The students are not required to appear in court at this stage.
Caught Crossing the Border
Earlier, the Pasukan Gerakan Am detained the students at around 6.30am after they were found crossing Sungai Golok from Thailand via illegal entry points to attend school in Rantau Panjang.
Southeast Brigade commander Ahmad Radzi Hussain said all the students are Malaysian citizens residing in southern Thailand.
Illegal Crossings Used Daily
Initial investigations revealed that the students, including 12 girls, had been using these illegal routes as part of their daily commute.
The situation has raised concerns over safety risks and enforcement challenges along the border.
