
Mindef Introduces Stronger Procurement Controls, Khaled Emphasises Transparency and Accountability
JOHOR BAHRU, Feb. 21, 2026 – The Ministry of Defence is implementing major improvements to its procurement system to strengthen transparency and oversight following a temporary freeze on certain military asset spending.
Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the reforms were agreed upon with the Ministry of Finance Malaysia.
He said the changes aim to ensure stricter compliance with procurement procedures.
Procurement committees expanded
Khaled said procurement committees will now include representatives from multiple military branches.
This will strengthen oversight.
It will also improve accountability.
Open international tenders required
He said overseas purchases must go through open tenders.
This will prevent unnecessary intermediaries.
It will also help control costs.
Military operations unaffected
Khaled assured that operational readiness remains intact.
Essential supplies such as food, fuel, and spare parts are not affected.
Military operations will continue normally.
