Malaysia Positions Itself as Neutral Defence Hub as DSA & Natsec Asia 2026 Opens in Kuala Lumpur
KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 — Malaysia is reinforcing its role as a neutral meeting ground for global defence stakeholders as it prepares to host the Defence Services Asia (DSA) and National Security (Natsec) Asia 2026 exhibition, a major regional platform for military and security engagement.
Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin conducted a final inspection at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), where the large-scale event is set to take place over four days beginning April 20.
During the walkthrough, Khaled reviewed preparations across the exhibition grounds, which span approximately 45,000 square metres. Workers were seen completing final adjustments, including booth installations, equipment setup and the display of defence assets, as organisers worked to ensure readiness for the influx of international participants.
The biennial exhibition is expected to attract 1,456 companies from 63 countries, featuring major defence players from regions such as Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Countries including Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, China and Russia are among those participating, highlighting the event’s global reach.
Khaled said the scale of participation reflects Malaysia’s credibility as a neutral and trusted platform for dialogue, particularly at a time when geopolitical tensions continue to shape international relations.
He emphasised that the exhibition goes beyond commercial transactions, serving as a strategic avenue for defence diplomacy. According to him, the ability to bring together countries with differing interests under one roof demonstrates Malaysia’s commitment to fostering engagement and dialogue.
“Malaysia provides a space where all parties can interact professionally, regardless of their geopolitical positions,” he said during a media briefing.
Khaled added that such engagement is essential in maintaining open communication channels, especially in an increasingly complex global security environment. The exhibition allows defence officials, policymakers and industry leaders to exchange perspectives and explore areas of cooperation.
In addition to its diplomatic role, the event is expected to contribute to the growth of Malaysia’s defence industry. Khaled highlighted that the platform enables local companies to showcase their capabilities to a global audience, potentially opening doors to international partnerships and supply chain integration.
He said the government is committed to ensuring that foreign procurement activities include elements that benefit domestic industry, such as technology transfer and capacity development, in line with the Defence Industry Policy (DIPN).
Over the years, DSA and Natsec Asia have established themselves as premier events in the regional defence calendar. Khaled noted that the exhibition’s comprehensive scope — covering land, air and maritime domains — sets it apart from similar events.
“This is a platform that brings together all aspects of defence and security. Its strength lies in its breadth and depth,” he said.
The exhibition, now in its 19th edition for DSA and fourth for Natsec Asia, is expected to draw more than 50,000 trade visitors from 114 countries. It will be officially opened by Anwar Ibrahim.
With the theme “Enhancing Capabilities and Resilience Through Technology”, the event will highlight advancements in defence systems, cybersecurity solutions and emerging technologies that are shaping the future of security.
As Kuala Lumpur hosts this major international gathering, Malaysia aims to strengthen its position as a key player in regional defence dialogue while supporting the development of its domestic industry.
