Charity Golf Event Honours Tun Ahmad Sarji’s Legacy, Raises Funds for Quranic Education
PETALING JAYA, April 19 — A charity golf tournament held in memory of the late Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid has successfully combined sport and philanthropy, raising RM20,000 to support Quranic education initiatives while reinforcing community spirit among participants.
The funds were presented by Suriani Ahmad Sarji on behalf of the family to Kasmuri Sukardi, director of the Yayasan Institut Pengajian Al-Quran, during a prize-giving ceremony at Saujana Golf & Country Club.
The Golf Amal Pro-Am Tun Ahmad Sarji 2026 tournament drew a diverse field of participants, reflecting a shared commitment to contributing to a meaningful cause. The event began early in the morning with a shotgun start format, setting the tone for a full day of competitive yet socially driven activity.
A total of 69 amateur players took part in the tournament, each paired with one of 23 professional golfers in a Pro-Am format designed to encourage mentorship, interaction and sportsmanship. The pairing allowed amateur players to gain insights from seasoned professionals while competing in a structured environment.
The event also highlighted the role of corporate support in driving charitable initiatives. Twelve companies came forward as sponsors, contributing to the organisation and success of the tournament. Among them were Affin Bank, Bermaz Motor Trading Sdn Bhd, MBSB Bank, Northport (M) Berhad, Shapadu Capital Sdn Bhd, Sime Darby Property Berhad, Sime UMW, SIRIM and Tenaga Nasional Berhad.
Their involvement not only ensured the smooth execution of the event but also underscored the importance of corporate social responsibility in supporting community-focused programmes.
Additional support was provided by MST Golf, which sponsored prizes for top-performing teams and novelty categories, enhancing the competitive aspect of the tournament. A lucky draw segment added further excitement, with green fee vouchers contributed by golf clubs nationwide.
Participating clubs included Bukit Jawi Golf Resort, Impian Golf & Country Club, Kelab Rahman Putra Malaysia, Kota Permai Golf & Country Club, Mines Resort & Golf Club, Palm Resort Golf & Country Club, Penang Golf Resort, Port Dickson Golf & Country Club and Royal Pahang Golf Club.
Organised with the involvement of the Professional Golfers Association of Malaysia (PGM), the event demonstrated how sports can serve as an effective platform for charitable engagement. PGM expressed appreciation to all parties involved, including sponsors, players, officials and venue management, for their contributions.
Beyond fundraising, the tournament served as a tribute to Tun Ahmad Sarji’s legacy, reflecting values of service, leadership and community contribution. By aligning the event with a charitable cause, organisers aimed to extend these values into ongoing initiatives that benefit society.
The RM20,000 donation will support programmes under the Yayasan Institut Pengajian Al-Quran, contributing to efforts to expand access to Quranic education and related activities.
Encouraged by the positive response, organisers are exploring the possibility of making the tournament an annual event. PGM has indicated its intention to continue the initiative in 2027, with the aim of increasing participation and raising greater funds for charitable causes.
The success of the event highlights the potential of combining sports, community involvement and corporate support to create meaningful impact, demonstrating that recreational activities can play a significant role in advancing social initiatives.
