Malaysia Launches Buy Tickets Safely Campaign To Combat Event Ticket Scams

KUALA LUMPUR: Kementerian Komunikasi Malaysia has launched the pre-launch phase of Malaysia’s first nationwide consumer protection campaign aimed at tackling ticket fraud, known as Beli Tiket Selamat (BTS).

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the full online portal and support centre for the initiative are expected to be launched within the next few weeks through the belitiketselamat.my platform.

According to him, the 24-month campaign is a collaborative effort between the government and industry players specifically designed to protect consumers before, during and after ticket scam incidents occur.

“This initiative comes at the right time, especially as the country enters the Kuala Lumpur Headline Season and prepares for Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” he said during the launch of KL Headline Season 2026 today.

He stressed that the government does not want ticket scams to undermine public and tourist confidence in Malaysia’s live entertainment and events industry.

The BTS campaign is expected to become a key initiative in strengthening consumer safety involving concert tickets, entertainment festivals, sports events and other major public gatherings that continue to attract strong demand.

Fahmi Fadzil said one of the most significant features of the campaign is the introduction of physical help desks at participating event venues.

The help desks will allow victims of ticket scams to quickly receive case reference numbers, completed reports for the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC), as well as guidance on the next steps within approximately 15 minutes.

“Every report submitted will contribute to a national intelligence ecosystem that can provide regular alerts to enforcement agencies and the public,” he said.

He explained that the initiative is crucial as ticket scam syndicates are increasingly exploiting social media and digital platforms to deceive consumers.

Apart from helping victims obtain immediate assistance, the reporting system is also expected to help authorities identify scam trends and common syndicate tactics more effectively.

The Beli Tiket Selamat campaign is aligned with broader government efforts to strengthen digital consumer protection and raise public awareness regarding the risks of purchasing tickets through unauthorised channels.

The initiative is also expected to boost confidence among tourists and entertainment fans ahead of numerous large-scale events scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur and across Malaysia over the coming months.
