BMW Group Malaysia Appoints Raymond Tan as New Managing Director From September

PETALING JAYA: BMW Group Malaysia has announced the appointment of Raymond Tan Chor Ann as its new Managing Director, effective September 1, 2026, marking the return of the first Malaysian executive to lead the premium automotive company’s local operations.

The leadership transition comes as the company prepares for its next phase of growth, including the introduction of BMW’s upcoming Neue Klasse vehicle platform, while continuing to strengthen its presence across the BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad brands.

Raymond will succeed current Managing Director Benjamin Nagel, who has been appointed Managing Director of BMW Group Importer Markets TW, HK, MC, where he will oversee the company’s operations in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

In his new role, Raymond will be responsible for leading BMW Group Malaysia’s overall business strategy, accelerating growth across its premium automotive portfolio and reinforcing the company’s technology-neutral approach by offering customers a broad range of mobility solutions.

His appointment also represents a homecoming after building an extensive international career within the BMW Group across Malaysia, the Asia-Pacific region and the company’s global headquarters in Munich, Germany.

Raymond began his journey with BMW Group Malaysia in 2003 as part of the company’s pioneering local team and has since held a series of leadership positions spanning product planning, pricing strategy, regional product management, marketing and sales.

Throughout his career, he has served as Product Planning and Pricing Manager, Regional Product Manager based in Munich, Head of Marketing and later Head of Sales in Malaysia, giving him broad experience across both local and international markets.

Commenting on his appointment, Raymond said he was honoured to return to lead BMW Group Malaysia at what he described as an important period in the company’s development.

He said the upcoming launch of the Neue Klasse model family represents a significant milestone for the BMW brand globally and provides new opportunities to strengthen the company’s position in the Malaysian premium automotive market.

“My priority is to continue expanding the business, enhance the professionalism of our retail network, strengthen customer loyalty and reinforce BMW Group’s position as Malaysia’s preferred premium automotive brand,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, outgoing Managing Director Benjamin Nagel will assume responsibility for several key importer markets after leading BMW Group Malaysia through a period marked by the expansion of vehicle electrification, digital transformation initiatives and continued development of the company’s dealer network.

Reflecting on his tenure in Malaysia, Benjamin said the experience had provided valuable insights that he hopes to bring into his new regional leadership role while maintaining a strong customer-focused approach.

The leadership transition reflects BMW Group’s continued emphasis on developing internal talent while leveraging international experience to strengthen its operations across strategic markets in the Asia-Pacific region.
