Heavy Rain Sparks Flash Floods, Causes Gridlock on Klang Valley Expressways
PETALING JAYA — Torrential rain across the Klang Valley this afternoon triggered flash floods on two major highways, leading to severe traffic congestion and disrupting commuters during peak hours.
The first flood incident was reported at about 4.14pm along the New Pantai Expressway involving the Kuchai Link route heading towards the expressway.
According to preliminary information, floodwaters rose rapidly and blocked all lanes at the affected location, leaving vehicles unable to pass through.
Traffic movement slowed significantly as motorists became trapped in long queues while some vehicles were forced to stop completely due to rising water levels.
KESAS Lanes Temporarily Closed
At the same time, Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia confirmed another flash flood incident along the Shah Alam Expressway near KM48.0 close to the Awan Besar Interchange heading eastbound from Kinrara.
Authorities said the flooding forced all lanes at the affected section to be temporarily shut for safety reasons.
The closure resulted in traffic congestion stretching approximately four kilometres as vehicles continued to build up along the expressway during the evening rush.
Roads surrounding the affected areas also experienced slower traffic after motorists attempted to divert to alternative routes.
Motorists Encouraged to Plan Alternate Journeys
The highway authority advised road users to remain alert and comply with instructions issued by enforcement officers and emergency personnel at affected locations.
Drivers were also encouraged to consider alternative routes and postpone unnecessary travel if weather conditions continued to worsen.
Authorities stressed the importance of avoiding flooded roads to reduce the risk of accidents or vehicles becoming stranded.
As of the latest update, no injuries or accidents had been reported in connection with the flash flood incidents.
Traffic conditions, however, are expected to remain challenging until water levels fully recede and road access is restored.
