Meller Optics Launches Custom LIDAR Solutions for High-Performance Defence Systems

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — Meller Optics has expanded its advanced optics portfolio with the introduction of custom-built LIDAR optical components designed for mission-critical defence and navigation systems.

The company said the specialised optics can be engineered to meet precise ultraviolet (UV) to infrared (IR) transmission requirements for use in airborne, maritime and ground-based platforms.

The product line includes custom lenses, mirrors, windows and prisms manufactured in multiple shapes such as plano-concave, concave and meniscus configurations.

Engineered for Surveillance and Autonomous Operations

According to Meller Optics, the components are developed using materials including germanium, sapphire, silicon, UV glass, zinc selenide and zinc sulfide to ensure compatibility with demanding operational environments.

The optics are intended to support applications involving target acquisition, surveillance, 3D terrain mapping and autonomous navigation systems where precision and durability are critical.

The company said the products are specifically tailored to maintain stable optical transmission and reliable performance under mission-sensitive conditions.

Precision Manufacturing and Custom Features

Meller Optics stated that the optical components can be fabricated in sizes ranging from 0.25 inches to four inches in diameter or diagonal dimensions.

Manufacturing tolerances include ±0.005 inches for dimensions and ±0.002 inches for thickness to deliver high levels of accuracy.

Customers can also request additional features such as anti-reflective coatings, mounting holes and stepped configurations depending on system requirements.

Supporting Expanding LIDAR Demand

Meller Optics said the launch reflects growing global demand for advanced LIDAR technologies used in defence systems, industrial automation and autonomous platforms.

The company is also registered under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), enabling it to participate in regulated defence-related programmes.

Pricing for the products depends on material choice, design configuration and order volume.
