Hamzah Zainudin to Reveal New Political Platform Next Month Amid Ongoing Registration Process

LARUT, April 20 — Former Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin is set to formally announce his new political platform next month, signalling a significant development in Malaysia’s opposition landscape.

The Larut MP said details of what he described as his “new home” remain under review by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), with key aspects such as the party’s name, organisational structure and framework still being finalised.

“Not that we are unwilling to share, but even the name has yet to be confirmed. What I can say is that this new platform is large, with membership already reaching hundreds of thousands,” he told reporters after attending a tahlil and Aidilfitri open house event in Kampung Bukit Bertam.

Hamzah indicated that the initiative is intended to go beyond the formation of a conventional political party. Instead, he described it as a broader movement aimed at reshaping the country’s political dynamics, particularly if it gains traction at the grassroots level.

According to him, early signs of support have been encouraging. More than 130 divisions have reportedly submitted nominations for leadership positions, with the number expected to rise to around 150 divisions in the near future.

He said the figures reflect an organised mobilisation effort that could form the foundation of a new political force.

Observers note that Hamzah’s move comes at a time when opposition alignments remain fluid, with various factions seeking to consolidate support ahead of future electoral contests.

His departure from Bersatu has added a new dimension to this dynamic, raising questions about how his next political step may influence the balance within opposition ranks.

When asked about his resignation as Opposition Leader, Hamzah clarified that his previous appointment to the role was not an individual decision, but one reached through consensus within the Perikatan Nasional (PN).

He emphasised that the position of Opposition Leader is not tied to any single individual, but is determined by the collective support of opposition Members of Parliament.

“At present, the opposition bloc comprises three main groups — PAS, Bersatu and independents. It is these MPs who will decide who should take on the role before Parliament convenes,” he said.

Hamzah’s comments highlight the ongoing negotiations within the opposition, where leadership roles are closely linked to parliamentary support and political alliances.

His next move — whether to establish a new party or align with an existing component within PN — is expected to have implications for the coalition’s internal structure.

Political analysts suggest that if his new platform succeeds in attracting significant membership and organisational support, it could alter the current dynamics within the opposition, particularly in terms of leadership and influence.

However, they also note that the success of such an initiative will depend on its ability to translate early momentum into sustained grassroots engagement.

For now, Hamzah remains focused on completing the registration process and consolidating support, with a formal announcement anticipated in the coming weeks
