Government assures continuous monitoring of deviant teachings, Muslims urged to consult authorities ahead of Ramadan
TANJONG MALIM, Feb 14, 2026 – The government has assured that continuous monitoring of suspicious or deviant religious teachings remains in place to safeguard the sanctity of Islam in Malaysia.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Zulkifli Hasan said relevant authorities are working closely with enforcement agencies to address any dissemination of teachings that contradict the Quran and Sunnah.
He stressed that such monitoring efforts are especially crucial as Muslims prepare for Ramadan, a month dedicated to spiritual reflection and strengthening of faith.
“These monitoring measures are important to prevent Muslims from being misled by unsound doctrines, particularly during Ramadan when the focus is on enhancing worship and devotion,” he said.
Zulkifli made the remarks after officiating the Jom ke Sekolah 2026 programme, a visit to a KAFA religious school and a community event at Dewan Semai Bakti in Felda Sungai Behrang.
He reiterated that religious authorities are conducting ongoing surveillance and preventive measures to ensure any form of deviant teaching that may threaten Islamic beliefs is swiftly addressed.
Public encouraged to report suspicious activities
Zulkifli also called on the public to consult recognised authorities or knowledgeable individuals when encountering questionable teachings or practices.
“Members of the public should seek clarification from the relevant authorities if there are any doubts. If suspicious activities are detected, they should be reported immediately,” he said.
He encouraged Muslims to use Ramadan as an opportunity to reinforce adherence to authentic Islamic teachings and to increase charitable and positive acts.
Previously, Johor Islamic Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid revealed that eight deviant movements had been identified in the state, although they are currently inactive and under close monitoring by the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ).
The movements named included Hizbut Tahrir, Syiah, Wahabi, Milah Abraham, Si Hulk, GISBH, Qadiani and The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light.
Zulkifli emphasised that the government remains firm in protecting Islamic creed and will continue strengthening monitoring mechanisms to prevent the spread of misleading ideologies.
