Noh Omar resigns from Bersatu Supreme Council, challenges legitimacy of disciplinary actions
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14, 2026 – Tan Sri Noh Omar has stepped down as a member of the Supreme Council of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), deepening the party’s internal crisis following a series of high-profile expulsions.
In a video statement shared on social media, Noh expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s Disciplinary Board for proceeding with punitive measures despite what he said was a Supreme Council decision on January 12 to suspend all disciplinary actions temporarily.
He questioned whether resolutions made at the party’s highest decision-making body were being respected and implemented.
“If the Supreme Council decided to postpone disciplinary measures, why were expulsions still carried out? What is the purpose of holding meetings if decisions are not upheld?” he asked.
The Tanjong Karang MP noted that the January meeting had also agreed to establish a Party Strengthening Committee chaired by Tan Sri Rais Yatim to restore unity and address internal tensions.
However, the subsequent expulsion of 17 leaders, including deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, has intensified concerns over the party’s direction and governance.
Noh maintained that organisational discipline must be grounded in adherence to the party constitution and due process.
“My principle is clear — no one is above the party constitution. All actions must comply with the rules,” he said.
He argued that any revision to the January 12 resolution should have been deliberated in a special Supreme Council meeting before disciplinary measures were enforced.
The confirmation of 17 expulsions has triggered renewed factional tensions within Bersatu, raising questions about leadership cohesion and decision-making processes.
Political observers believe the developments could affect the party’s stability and strategic positioning within the opposition bloc.
Noh’s resignation signals broader unease among senior leaders regarding governance practices and the handling of internal disputes at a critical juncture for the party.
