GAC launches AION UT electric hatchback in Milan, expands push into European market

MILAN, April 17 – GAC has introduced its latest electric vehicle, the AION UT hatchback, marking a significant step in its expansion strategy across Europe.

The model, unveiled in Milan, was co-developed with the company’s Advanced Design Centre in the city, reflecting a blend of global engineering and European design preferences.

Phased rollout across Europe

The AION UT is set to debut in Finland, Greece, Poland and Portugal within the current quarter, with additional European markets to follow in the third quarter.

This rollout highlights GAC’s ambition to strengthen its presence in the region’s growing electric vehicle segment.

Modern design with spacious interior

The hatchback combines contemporary styling with a spacious cabin, featuring a 2,750 mm wheelbase that offers interior room comparable to a mid-size sedan.

It is equipped with a dual-screen infotainment system, including a 14.6-inch touchscreen and an 8.88-inch digital instrument display.

Advanced safety and smart features

The vehicle meets high safety standards, incorporating structural reinforcements, curtain airbags and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

These features are designed to align with European regulatory requirements and consumer expectations.

Performance and charging capability

The AION UT offers a driving range of up to 430 km (WLTP) and supports fast charging, enabling the battery to reach 80 per cent from 30 per cent in approximately 24 minutes.

It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and is available in Premium and Luxury variants.

Local assembly in Austria

Like the AION V SUV, the new model is assembled at Magna’s facility in Graz, Austria, reflecting GAC’s shift towards localised production.

This approach enhances supply chain efficiency and responsiveness to regional demand.

“In Europe, for Europe” strategy

GAC is transitioning from an export-focused model to building a deeper footprint in Europe through local manufacturing, partnerships and investment in sustainable mobility.

Role of Milan design centre

The company’s Milan-based design centre plays a key role in shaping vehicles tailored to European tastes, combining global technology with refined design.

Expanding market presence

GAC is also working to grow its distribution and service network across Europe through new partnerships.
