Digital Ministry Urges Integrated Data Sharing to Dismantle Government Silos, Boost Service Efficiency

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Digital Malaysia has called on all government agencies and departments to strengthen their commitment to data sharing through the Malaysian Government Central Data Exchange (MyGDX) platform to improve public service delivery and accelerate national digitalisation.

In a statement today, the ministry said seamless data interoperability is a strategic tool to break down bureaucratic barriers and address inefficiencies caused by fragmented data management practices, commonly referred to as data silos, within the public sector.

It noted that past reliance on manual data collection and verification had placed heavy administrative burdens on civil servants, while also contributing to inconsistent records, higher risks of human error, and delays in application processing.

“Dependence on physical documentation limits access to real-time data, which is crucial for modern governance. This also makes it harder for citizens to track their applications transparently,” the ministry said.

The ministry therefore urged departmental leaders to view these challenges as opportunities to drive broader digital transformation through the full adoption of MyGDX.

According to the statement, intelligent collaboration enabled by the platform will allow civil servants to reduce repetitive clerical tasks and refocus on delivering high-impact public services.

At the same time, the implementation of the Once-Only Principle will directly benefit citizens by eliminating the need to submit the same documents multiple times to different agencies.

“Government processes will become faster, more efficient and more transparent, enabling transactions to be conducted entirely online with strong personal data protection and security,” it added.

The ministry also highlighted MyGDX’s strong performance since the beginning of the year, with 81 agencies currently involved, including 51 data providers and 23 data consumers.

A total of 49 integrated systems are now connected through the platform, which has processed more than 23 million API transactions.

Key datasets shared include civil servant profiles, higher education student records, passport verification, disability status confirmation, and driver and vehicle licensing information.

The official launch of the Public Sector Data Digitalisation Policy (PPDSA) and the expansion of MyGDX will take place on February 10 under the theme “Digital Automation through Technological Advancement” (D.A.T.A.).
