Nga Kor Ming Urges DAP to Stay Grounded and People-Centric at 60th Anniversary Milestone

BUKIT MERTAJAM, April 19 — As the Democratic Action Party (DAP) marked its 60th anniversary, Deputy National Chairman Nga Kor Ming called on party members to remain grounded, disciplined and committed to serving the rakyat despite the party’s evolution from opposition to government.

Speaking at a commemorative event attended by party members and supporters, Nga emphasised the importance of staying “humble, hungry and focused” — a message he said should guide DAP’s next phase as it continues to play a role in national governance.

Reflecting on the party’s six-decade journey, Nga said DAP has matured into a responsible and forward-looking political force, but its foundational values remain unchanged. He reiterated that the party’s mission continues to centre on democracy, justice, good governance and equality.

“From our beginnings as an opposition party to our role today in government, our purpose has always been to serve the people and uphold the principles that define a fair and inclusive society,” he said.

Nga highlighted DAP’s identity as a multiracial party, noting that its strength lies in its ability to represent Malaysians from diverse backgrounds. He said this inclusivity remains central to the party’s political philosophy and long-term vision.

The minister also addressed the transition from advocacy to governance, noting that being in government brings new responsibilities and expectations. He stressed that delivering tangible outcomes is critical in maintaining public trust.

Citing achievements under the Housing and Local Government Ministry, Nga said Malaysia recorded a historic RM241.9 billion in property transactions, reflecting strong activity in the housing sector.

He added that the government had approved approximately 500,000 affordable housing units nationwide, aimed at improving accessibility for Malaysians seeking home ownership.

Nga also pointed to the implementation of 15,083 infrastructure projects across the country, describing them as evidence of the government’s commitment to enhancing basic amenities and improving living conditions at the local level.

Another key achievement, he said, was the revival of 1,501 previously stalled or abandoned projects, benefiting around 180,000 homebuyers who had been affected by delays and uncertainty.

“These are not just statistics. They represent real progress and solutions that directly impact the lives of the rakyat,” he said.

Nga emphasised that while these accomplishments are significant, they should not lead to complacency. Instead, he urged party members to remain focused on their responsibilities and continue working closely with the people.

He said the party must maintain its connection with grassroots communities, ensuring that policies and initiatives are aligned with public needs and expectations.

Looking ahead, Nga expressed confidence in DAP’s ability to adapt to changing political dynamics while staying true to its core values. He said the party’s continued relevance will depend on its ability to deliver results and maintain integrity.

The anniversary celebration served as both a reflection on DAP’s past and a reminder of the challenges ahead. As the party moves forward, Nga stressed that humility and dedication to service must remain at the heart of its approach.
