Bursa Malaysia Closes Lower as Investors Remain Cautious Amid Global Uncertainty

PETALING JAYA — Bursa Malaysia ended Friday’s trading session on a weaker note, reflecting cautious investor sentiment amid ongoing uncertainties in regional and global markets.

The benchmark index declined by 2.80 points to close at 1,695.50, compared with 1,708.90 in the previous session, after opening lower at 1,704.12.

Market performance was influenced by external headwinds, with investors adopting a more measured approach in response to fluctuating global conditions.

Trading activity remained active, with a total volume of 3.382 billion shares valued at RM2.94 billion.

In the broader market, gainers outnumbered losers, with 633 counters advancing against 415 declining stocks, while 522 remained unchanged and 1,077 were untraded.

This suggests a mixed market environment despite the overall decline in the benchmark index.

Across the region, Asian markets showed varied performance.

Japan’s Nikkei index rose by 660.22 points, or 0.27 per cent, to 53,123.49, indicating positive momentum.

In contrast, Singapore’s STI slipped by 0.57 per cent to 4,947.5, while South Korea’s KOSPI climbed 143.25 points, or 2.74 per cent, to 5,377.30.

Overall, the mixed performance across regional markets highlights the continued uncertainty in the global economic landscape, which is influencing investor behaviour in Malaysia.
