Anwar Holds Back Comment on Negeri Sembilan Political Crisis, Says Statement Will Follow

KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has opted not to immediately address the ongoing political developments in Negeri Sembilan, signalling that an official statement will be issued at a later time.

When approached by reporters after officiating the launch of Huawei’s AI Lab and Innovation Centre at The Exchange 106 in TRX, Anwar gave a brief response, declining to elaborate on the situation.

“I will make an announcement later,” he said succinctly before being escorted away by his security team.

He noted that leaders from Pakatan Harapan (PH), along with Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun, had already addressed the issue earlier in the day during a press conference.

The prime minister’s measured response comes at a time when the state is facing heightened political uncertainty following a shift in legislative support.

Earlier, Aminuddin confirmed that he would continue in his role after receiving counsel from Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir to remain in office and proceed with governing duties.

The situation was triggered after 14 assemblymen from United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) withdrew their support for the current administration, raising questions about the stability of the state government.

Despite the setback, Aminuddin has maintained that his administration remains functional within the framework of existing laws, even as it potentially operates as a minority government.

Observers suggest that Anwar’s decision to delay his response indicates that consultations may still be ongoing among key stakeholders, particularly given the broader implications for political alignment at the federal level.

The unfolding situation continues to draw attention, with political analysts closely watching whether the crisis will lead to a reconfiguration of the state leadership or stabilise under the current administration.
