Aminuddin Quips He Was ‘Divorced Three Times’ by UMNO Amid Negeri Sembilan Crisis
SEREMBAN, April 27 — Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun has likened the withdrawal of support by 14 Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen to being “divorced three times” by United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), in a light-hearted yet pointed remark reflecting the ongoing political upheaval in the state.
Speaking to reporters at his official residence, Aminuddin said the situation was not triggered by his actions, but rather a decision made by BN lawmakers themselves.
“I can still smile, and God willing, I can still sleep. We leave everything to Allah SWT. There must be reasons behind what is happening,” he said.
“I’m not the one who initiated the separation — UMNO did. It feels like I’ve been divorced ‘talak tiga’,” he added in a jesting tone.
The Menteri Besar’s remarks come shortly after all 14 BN assemblymen publicly declared their loss of confidence in his leadership, setting off a fresh political crisis in Negeri Sembilan.
Despite the sudden development, Aminuddin, who also chairs Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the state, said he is accepting the situation with an open mind.
“I have to accept whatever decision comes next. It’s not an issue — I can still sleep,” he reiterated, signalling calmness amid the uncertainty.
He acknowledged that the move initially came as a surprise, but maintained that he remains composed and prepared to face the political consequences.
Aminuddin also shared that his family is coping well with the situation, although they were initially taken aback by the sudden turn of events.
In the meantime, he stressed that the state administration will continue functioning as usual while awaiting further direction from the top leadership of PH.
According to him, any next steps regarding the political impasse will ultimately be decided at the highest levels of the coalition.
The unfolding situation has drawn widespread attention, as observers closely monitor whether the crisis will escalate into a leadership change or stabilise under the current administration.
