Negeri Sembilan Display Tactical Superiority to Secure Charity Shield in Dominant Victory

SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan’s women’s hockey team delivered a tactically disciplined performance to claim the Charity Shield in the opening match of the Liga Hoki Malaysia TNB 2026 season, defeating Malaysia University-UNITEN 4-0 at Stadium Hoki Seremban 2.

The result reflected the home side’s structured approach and ability to execute their game plan effectively, capitalising on key moments throughout the match.

Fielding a squad strengthened by six national players and two experienced imports, Negeri Sembilan adopted an aggressive and organised approach from the outset, applying early pressure on their opponents.

The opening goal came in the sixth minute when Fatin Shafika Mohd. Shukri successfully converted a penalty corner, giving the hosts an early advantage.

That early breakthrough allowed Negeri Sembilan to control the tempo of the match while placing Malaysia University under sustained pressure.

Throughout the second and third quarters, both teams attempted to create scoring opportunities, but Negeri Sembilan’s disciplined defensive structure effectively neutralised the opposition’s attacking threats.

Entering the fourth quarter, Negeri Sembilan increased the intensity of their attacks, introducing greater tactical variation through quick passing and wider attacking channels.

Their efforts paid off in the 50th minute when Nur Afiqah Syahzani Azhar scored the second goal, further strengthening their lead.

Momentum remained firmly with the home side as Fatin Shafika added a third goal in the 54th minute, once again converting from a penalty corner.

The team’s efficiency in set-piece situations proved to be a decisive factor in the outcome of the match.

As the game approached its final stages, Negeri Sembilan continued to capitalise on their dominance, earning another penalty corner opportunity.

Siti Nur Arfah Mohd. Nor converted the chance to seal a comprehensive 4-0 victory.

Team captain Noor Hasliza Md. Ali credited the win to the team’s discipline and adherence to tactical instructions.

She acknowledged that Malaysia University posed a strong challenge, given their lineup of national players, but praised her teammates for maintaining focus throughout the match.

“We emphasised controlling critical areas near the goal and maintaining concentration at all times,” she said.

The Charity Shield was presented by Negeri Sembilan Hockey Association vice-president N. Logendran.
