Government Will Not Stay Idle Amid Global Crisis, People’s Interests Remain Top Priority — Anwar Ibrahim

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has reaffirmed its commitment to taking proactive measures in addressing the increasingly complex global supply crisis, with a clear focus on safeguarding the interests of the people and ensuring economic stability.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the administration will not adopt a passive stance in the face of global challenges that could disrupt supply chains, particularly in the energy sector.

He noted that all policies and initiatives are being carefully formulated to ensure Malaysia remains prepared, resilient, and capable of withstanding potential shocks to energy supply.

“Every measure taken is guided by the need to protect the people and to ensure that the country remains shielded from disruptions in energy supply,” he said in a post on his official X account.

Anwar highlighted that escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia have prompted the government to act early and cautiously to mitigate potential risks to the domestic economy.

In response, the Madani Government has strengthened its network of strategic partnerships with trusted international counterparts, including Oman, to secure the nation’s energy supply.

As part of these efforts, Anwar received a courtesy visit from the chairman of National Gas Company SAOG Oman, Sheikh Abdulla Suleiman Hamed Al Harthy, to explore avenues for deeper cooperation and new investment opportunities in the energy sector.

The meeting underscores Malaysia’s broader strategy to enhance bilateral ties and expand trade cooperation in oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Anwar emphasised that expanding cooperation in energy trade is not merely optional, but a strategic necessity to ensure the stability of the country’s energy supply chain.

“Strengthening trade in oil and LNG is crucial to maintaining supply stability and preventing cost pressures that could burden both the public and businesses,” he said.

He further noted that energy security remains a key pillar of sustainable economic growth, particularly in an environment marked by global uncertainty.

In this context, the government will continue to diversify energy sources and deepen international partnerships to reduce reliance on any single supply channel.

Such measures are aligned with the government’s long-term objective of enhancing economic resilience and protecting the welfare of Malaysians amid evolving global challenges.
