Siti Nurhaliza Encourages Children to Thank Their Parents on Their Own Birthdays

PETALING JAYA, July 2 — Malaysian singer Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza has shared a heartfelt perspective on birthdays, encouraging people to use the occasion not only to celebrate themselves but also to express gratitude to the parents who brought them into the world.

In a post on Threads, the award-winning artiste suggested that birthdays should serve as an opportunity for children to thank their mothers and fathers for their sacrifices, rather than simply expecting greetings and gifts from family members.

Siti’s comments came in response to a social media post by an individual who expressed disappointment after not receiving birthday wishes or presents from their parents.

Reflecting on the situation, she encouraged a change in perspective by reminding followers that parents deserve appreciation for the role they have played throughout their children’s lives.

“We usually look forward to receiving birthday wishes, especially from our parents. But perhaps we can see it differently,” she wrote.

“When it’s our birthday, maybe we should be the ones calling our parents to thank them for giving birth to us and raising us well. Without them, we wouldn’t be here. We should be giving them a gift instead.”

Siti said recognising parents on a child’s birthday is a meaningful way to honour the love, sacrifices and dedication they have shown in raising their children.

At the same time, she hoped her advice would not offend the individual who had shared the original post and took the opportunity to offer warm birthday wishes.

“I hope what I’ve shared doesn’t hurt your feelings. Happy birthday,” she wrote.

Her message quickly drew attention online, with many social media users praising the singer’s reminder about gratitude, family values and appreciating parents beyond special occasions.
