Federal Territories Department stresses MPPWP is not a business body after Wangsa Maju controversy
KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 – The Federal Territories Department (JWP) has reiterated that the Federal Territories Residents Representative Council (MPPWP) is a welfare-based organisation and not a commercial entity, following a controversy involving alleged misconduct by its members.
The clarification comes after a viral video surfaced, purportedly showing two individuals linked to the Wangsa Maju branch demanding “protection money” from a business.
Incident triggers public backlash
The footage sparked widespread concern and led to multiple police reports, intensifying calls for accountability.
In response, Parti Keadilan Rakyat instructed the two individuals to step down from their positions pending investigation.
Clarifying MPPWP’s role
JWP emphasised that MPPWP’s core function is to coordinate public complaints and implement community welfare programmes, not to engage in profit-driven activities.
Members are strictly prohibited from exploiting their roles for personal or commercial gain.
Strict rules against misuse
Prohibited actions include using official credentials for business dealings, conducting unauthorised fund collection and undertaking activities outside official responsibilities.
Warning of firm action
The department warned that legal and administrative measures will be taken against those found to have abused their positions, including enforcement under existing financial regulations.
Public urged to stay alert
JWP also called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour involving individuals claiming to represent MPPWP, to prevent misuse and protect community interests.
