Fuziah Salleh: Segambut Diesel Pump Incident Caused by Empty Supply, No Auto Cut-Off

PUTRAJAYA: A viral diesel refuelling incident at a petrol station in Jalan Segambut was caused by depleted fuel supply and the absence of an automatic cut-off system.

Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Fuziah Salleh said investigations by the Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Kos Sara Hidup found that diesel ran out while refuelling was still ongoing.

She explained that the pump meter continued recording charges despite the lack of fuel flow.

Manual Monitoring Delayed Detection

Further findings showed that the station lacked an automatic detection system to stop the pump when fuel supply was exhausted.

Instead, it relied on manual tank measurement, which may delay detection of empty stock.

The actual diesel dispensed in the incident was valued at RM232.07.

Full Refund Issued

Fuziah said the station promptly issued a full refund to the affected customer on April 9, 2026, and the resolution was accepted.

Equipment and Licences Valid

Technical inspections confirmed that all pumps were within their valid verification period.

Tests using a 20-litre measurement standard showed readings within the allowed margin of error.

The station’s licences under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the Petroleum Development Act 1974 were also found to be valid.

Warning Issued, Monitoring Strengthened

Despite meeting technical requirements, the station was issued a stern warning to improve operational monitoring and prevent recurrence.

Fuziah stressed that the incident was isolated and does not reflect the overall fuel supply system, which remains stable.

The public has been advised not to spread unverified information as authorities continue to enhance monitoring and enforcement.
