Rising Heatwave Keeps Kota Setar at Level 2, 14 Districts on Alert Across Malaysia

Persistent high temperatures raise concern

KUALA LUMPUR: Jabatan Meteorologi Malaysia has reported that Kota Setar in Kedah continues to experience Level 2 heatwave conditions as high temperatures persist over several days.

The latest update as of 4pm indicates that daily maximum temperatures in the district remain at elevated levels, posing potential risks to public health and daily activities.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as weather conditions remain unstable.

Wider alert across multiple states

In addition to Kota Setar, 14 districts across several states have been placed under Level 1 alert, signalling rising temperatures that require caution.

Affected areas in Kedah include Padang Terap, Pendang, Pokok Sena, Kubang Pasu, Kuala Muda and Baling.

In Perak, Kuala Kangsar and Hulu Perak are on alert, while Kelantan includes Tanah Merah, Pasir Mas, Machang and Kuala Krai.

In Pahang, Jerantut and Maran are also experiencing similar conditions.

The spread of these alerts reflects the growing impact of hot weather across Peninsular Malaysia.

Heat levels and health risks explained

According to Jabatan Meteorologi Malaysia, Level 1 is defined by daily maximum temperatures between 35°C and 37°C for three consecutive days.

Level 2, or heatwave status, occurs when temperatures rise between 37°C and 40°C over the same duration.

These conditions increase health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and those with existing health issues.

Public urged to take precautions

The public is advised to reduce outdoor exposure, stay well hydrated and take preventive measures against heat-related illnesses such as dehydration and heatstroke.

Authorities will continue issuing updates as monitoring efforts remain ongoing.

The prolonged heat may also affect agriculture and water supply, highlighting the importance of early mitigation measures to minimise long-term impact.
