Muhyiddin assumes deputy chairman role in PN as Hadi steps away from supreme council
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has been appointed deputy chairman of the coalition following recent leadership changes.
The development comes after Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar was named the new chairman, marking a transition in the coalition’s top leadership.
Appointment part of leadership reorganisation
PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said Muhyiddin’s appointment was made as part of a leadership restructuring process.
He explained that other deputy chairman positions remain unchanged, ensuring continuity within the coalition.
Muhyiddin’s experience is expected to continue contributing to the coalition’s leadership.
Abdul Hadi withdraws from supreme council role
Meanwhile, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has decided not to sit on PN’s supreme council.
Instead, he will remain involved in the presidential council, which consists of leaders from PN’s component parties.
The decision was made voluntarily.
Change follows Muhyiddin’s resignation as chairman
Muhyiddin had previously stepped down as PN chairman earlier this year after leading the coalition since 2020.
His resignation paved the way for Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar to take over the position.
His new appointment ensures he remains part of the coalition’s senior leadership.
Move aimed at strengthening leadership structure
The leadership adjustments reflect efforts to strengthen PN’s organisational structure and maintain stability.
They also highlight the coalition’s move to adapt its leadership in response to evolving political developments.
