Wild boars steal the spotlight during Year of the Horse celebration in Malaysian neighbourhood

KUALA LUMPUR: As Malaysians marked the Chinese New Year and welcomed the Year of the Horse, a household received an unexpected visit when a group of wild boars appeared outside their home, drawing both fascination and concern.

The unusual encounter was recorded by Eric Sua and shared on Facebook, showing multiple wild boars, including adults and young ones, roaming freely in a residential area.

Animals gathered near residential gate

In the video, the boars were seen standing near the front gate while dogs barked from inside the property.

Shortly afterwards, pieces of bread were thrown towards the animals, suggesting they were being fed.

In his caption, Sua briefly noted that the animals had emerged in large numbers from a nearby area.

A woman heard in the video expressed surprise, remarking that she had never witnessed such a scene before.

Boars reportedly appear regularly

Another individual present during the incident mentioned that more than ten boars visited the area and often arrived at the same time each day.

This suggests the animals may have become accustomed to human presence and food sources.

Online reactions ranged from humour to caution

The video quickly gained attention online, with many users sharing their thoughts.

Some made lighthearted jokes, saying the boars were joining the festive celebration, while others linked the sighting to luck.

However, several users also warned about the dangers of feeding wild animals.

They noted that such actions could encourage repeated visits and create safety risks.

Experts warn against feeding wildlife

Wildlife specialists have advised the public not to feed wild boars, highlighting the risks of disease transmission and potential danger.

They stressed that human interaction can change animal behaviour and increase the risk of conflict.

Although the incident amused many viewers, it also served as a reminder of the importance of maintaining safe boundaries between humans and wildlife.
