Fahmi: MyKasih Upgrades System, Expands Bandwidth Ahead of SARA for All Rollout
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 8 — The MyKasih Foundation, the non-governmental organisation responsible for managing the database of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme, has upgraded its system and expanded bandwidth capacity to ensure a smooth rollout of the SARA for All initiative starting tomorrow.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the upgrades were implemented based on lessons learned from previous rollouts, particularly to prevent technical disruptions during the early stages of the programme.
He said the assurance was conveyed to him by Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican during a discussion earlier today.
“He informed me that for the initial phase of SARA for All, steps have been taken following the issues experienced at the end of 2025. MyKasih, which manages the database, has increased its bandwidth capacity to ensure there are no system issues when the programme begins tomorrow,” Fahmi said.
He was speaking to reporters after officiating the launch of Safer Internet Day 2026 here today.
Under the SARA for All programme, a one-off RM100 assistance will be credited via MyKad to Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above. The funds can be used to purchase essential items at selected outlets and will be valid until December 31.
Public Urged to Stay Alert Against Online Scams
In his speech, Fahmi also urged the public to remain vigilant against online scams, especially during festive periods such as Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri, when spending and cash withdrawals tend to increase.
He warned the public not to click on any hyperlinks received via SMS, noting that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had instructed all telecommunications companies last year to prohibit hyperlinks in text messages.
Fahmi explained that scammers may deploy fake base station devices near victims’ locations to transmit fraudulent messages.
He also advised scam victims to immediately contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) through its 24-hour hotline at 997.
“If a report is lodged within 30 minutes, we will do everything possible to block the outflow of funds and assist in recovering the victim’s money,” he said.
AI App Regulation Still Under Review
Commenting on whether the government plans to introduce specific legislation for artificial intelligence (AI) applications, Fahmi said the matter falls under the purview of the Digital Ministry.
“However, licensing matters usually involve MCMC, and we are currently reviewing whether there are any findings or recommendations from regulatory bodies regarding the licensing of AI applications.
“At this stage, there is no specific law in place, but the issue is being examined,” he added.
