Police Raid Warehouse in Klang Over Suspected Cryptocurrency Mining Activities

KLANG: Police have detained two men following a raid on a warehouse in the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) that is suspected of being used for cryptocurrency mining operations, as authorities continue investigating possible offences involving property damage and electricity supply regulations.

The operation was carried out at about 9.30am on Friday by officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the South Klang District Police Headquarters (IPD Klang Selatan), with assistance from technicians from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and PKFZ auxiliary police.

South Klang District Police Chief ACP Lim Jit Huey said the raid resulted in the arrest of two suspects, comprising a Malaysian man and a foreign national aged 20 and 31 respectively.

During the operation, enforcement personnel also seized equipment believed to have been used for cryptocurrency mining. The items have been taken into custody to facilitate further investigations into the activities conducted at the premises.

According to Lim, police have opened an investigation under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which relates to the offence of committing mischief and carries a penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine or both upon conviction.

The case is also being investigated under Section 37(1) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990, which provides penalties of up to five years’ imprisonment, a maximum fine of RM100,000, or both, for offences under the Act.

Police did not disclose further details regarding the scale of the alleged cryptocurrency mining operation or whether investigations are being extended to identify additional individuals connected to the case.

A remand order was subsequently obtained from the Klang Magistrate’s Court, allowing both suspects to be held for four days until 7 July to assist investigators.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the alleged activities and any possible violations of existing laws.
