Police Investigate Death of Nine-Year-Old Boy Following Bathroom Incident at Cheras Home

KAJANG: Police are investigating the death of a nine-year-old boy who died after an incident believed to have occurred while he was in the bathroom of his family home in Taman Bukit Segar, Cheras.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said authorities received a report on the incident at 9.01pm after the child was pronounced dead at the Red Zone Emergency Department of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident is believed to have taken place at about 5pm while the boy was bathing at home.

Police believe the child suffered injuries after a fall inside the bathroom before family members rushed him to hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Despite efforts by medical personnel, the boy was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment.

Naazron said the body has been transferred to the Forensic Unit of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

He stressed that investigations remain ongoing and that police have yet to determine the cause of the incident pending the outcome of the post-mortem and further inquiries.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and has also been classified as a sudden death report while investigations continue.

Police are appealing to members of the public who may have information relevant to the case to contact investigating officer Inspector Mohd Amirul Abd Wahab at 013-5495236.

Naazron also advised parents and guardians to remain vigilant over children’s safety, including while they are at home, as domestic accidents can occur unexpectedly.
