Shaffiq Erwin Says Anggrek’s Only Weakness Is Her Vocals, Believes Her Stage Aura Is Exceptional
PETALING JAYA: Singer and vocal coach Shaffiq Erwin believes Talk To My Manager (TTMM) Season 2 finalist Anggrek has what it takes to succeed in the entertainment industry, despite acknowledging that her vocal technique remains a work in progress.
According to Shaffiq, the young singer’s shortcomings are limited to her vocal abilities and can be improved over time through proper training and consistent practice.
He said what truly sets Anggrek apart is her stage presence and the ability to captivate audiences whenever she performs.
“In my opinion, Anggrek’s only weakness lies in her vocals.
“But in terms of performance, confidence and her ability to command attention on stage, she is already at a very high level,” he said in a post shared on Threads.
Shaffiq expressed confidence that with regular vocal lessons over the next two to three years, Anggrek’s singing ability could improve significantly.
He noted that while many singers possess impressive voices, only a handful have the charisma needed to create a lasting impression on audiences.
“For me, Anggrek’s aura is something special.
“There are singers with outstanding vocals who still struggle to keep audiences engaged.
“But Anggrek has a unique charm that makes people want to keep watching and leaves them mesmerised by her performance,” he said.
Shaffiq believes such qualities are invaluable in today’s highly competitive entertainment industry.
He said if Anggrek continues to strengthen her technical skills, she could emerge as one of Malaysia’s most promising young talents.
Anggrek recently attracted widespread attention after performing Lagu Kesuma, originally sung by Malaysian music icon Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, during the semi-final stage of TTMM2.
Her performance sparked mixed reactions online, with many praising her courage and stage confidence, while others highlighted areas of her singing technique that could be improved.
Nevertheless, Shaffiq said constructive criticism should be viewed as motivation for growth rather than discouragement.
He stressed that long-term success in music is determined not only by vocal ability but also by an artist’s capacity to connect emotionally with audiences.
“Talent can be developed and techniques can be refined.
“But stage aura and the ability to make people fall in love with your performance are qualities that not everyone possesses.
“And I believe Anggrek has that special quality,” he said.
Shaffiq Erwin, who is also the cousin of singer Ara Johari, is known for his single Janjir and has become a familiar voice in discussions surrounding vocal techniques and emerging talents in Malaysia’s music industry.
