Married Couple Killed in Crash, Driver Under Investigation
KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — A married couple were killed in a road accident along Jalan Ampang near Menara Great Eastern early yesterday after their motorcycle was hit from behind by a car.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident occurred at about 5.34am and involved a Honda Wave Alpha motorcycle and a Toyota Vios.
The victims, aged 61 and 56, were pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate that the car, driven by a 24-year-old local man, is believed to have lost control before colliding with the motorcycle.
“The driver sustained head injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital,” he said.
Police have taken blood and urine samples from the driver for toxicology testing at the Chemistry Department to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol or other substances at the time of the crash.
A 23-year-old front passenger was also injured and is undergoing treatment, while a rear passenger sustained minor injuries and has provided a statement to assist in the investigation.
The bodies of the victims have been claimed by their family members, and investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the accident.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Members of the public with relevant information are urged to come forward to assist police.
The incident highlights the ongoing need for responsible driving and strict adherence to road safety regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
