Artificial Intelligence Reshaping Youth Careers as Creative Industries Expand
GOMBAK, May 4 — The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is redefining career pathways for young people, particularly within the fast-growing creative sector.
Azizan Rubaan, president of the Malaysian AI Creative Association (PeKA), said that mastering AI has become increasingly essential for those seeking to remain competitive in today’s job market.
He explained that individuals who combine strong foundational skills with AI capabilities are better equipped to meet industry demands, especially in an environment where efficiency and innovation are highly valued.
“In today’s workforce, speed and quality are critical. AI enhances both, giving those who understand it a clear advantage,” he said at the Digital Game Art Innovation Showcase 2026.
According to Azizan, AI should not be seen merely as a tool, but as a platform that enables creativity and innovation across multiple disciplines, including animation, digital design, content creation and game development.
At the same time, he emphasised the importance of ethical awareness and strong foundational knowledge to ensure AI is used responsibly and effectively.
He added that PeKA serves as a bridge between academia, students and industry players, working to align talent development with real-world industry needs.
Through collaborations with organisations such as Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), initiatives are underway to establish guidelines for AI usage that reflect ethical considerations, cultural values and local context.
Such efforts are crucial to ensuring that technological progress remains aligned with societal expectations.
Meanwhile, Amir Hamzah Hashim, director of the Malaysian Creative Arts and TVET Festival (ANIFEST Malaysia), noted that technological advancements have significantly broadened opportunities for young people in creative fields.
He pointed out that industries such as animation have evolved beyond traditional television formats, expanding into gaming, digital media and interactive experiences.
“Today’s generation has far greater access to technology and learning resources, allowing them to develop their skills and explore their potential more effectively,” he said.
He also encouraged young people to take a proactive approach, not only in building technical skills but also in expanding their professional networks to stay competitive.
Overall, the rise of AI is not only transforming how creative work is produced but also reshaping the skillsets required for future careers, making adaptability and continuous learning essential for success.
