Mufti’s Office Urges Broader Evaluation of Rain Rave Festival Beyond Entertainment Value
PETALING JAYA, May 1 — The Federal Territories Mufti’s Office has stressed that the Rain Rave Water Music Festival 2026 should not be viewed solely as an entertainment platform or tourism initiative, but rather assessed holistically in terms of its moral, social and cultural impact.
In a statement issued under Bayan Linnas Series 351, the office highlighted that large-scale events which may encourage uncontrolled social interaction, negligence or behaviour inconsistent with moral values require careful consideration due to their potential long-term effects.
According to the statement, rave-style festivals, often associated with external cultural influences, may not align with local norms if not properly managed.
“In certain circumstances, the potential harm may outweigh temporary benefits, particularly when it involves moral and societal well-being,” the statement noted.
The Mufti’s Office emphasised the importance of preventive measures, stressing that potential risks should be addressed before they manifest into larger social issues.
It also pointed out that past experiences have shown that large-scale entertainment events can be linked to safety concerns, public disturbances and behavioural risks if not adequately controlled.
As such, authorities have been urged to conduct a more comprehensive evaluation of such events, taking into account not only economic considerations but also social responsibility.
The statement further clarified that Islam does not reject entertainment entirely, but it must operate within ethical boundaries and should not lead to moral neglect or social harm.
When elements such as excessive social mixing or activities that undermine moral values are present, the permissibility and appropriateness of such entertainment may need to be reconsidered.
“The long-term impact on moral development and societal identity, especially among younger generations, must be taken seriously,” the statement added.
The Mufti’s Office therefore called on organisers and policymakers to adopt a responsible and balanced approach, ensuring that any event held contributes positively to society without creating greater harm than benefit.
