Discounted Airfares Strengthen MATTA Fair’s Role in Driving Tourism Ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026
KOTA BHARU, April 30 — Discounted airfares of up to 30 per cent offered during MATTA Fair events are increasingly seen as a strategic tool in stimulating travel demand and supporting the goals of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY 2026).
The collaboration between the Persatuan Ejen Pelancongan dan Pengembaraan Malaysia and Malaysia Aviation Group enables airlines to offer competitive ticket pricing, which in turn lowers the overall cost of travel packages.
MATTA Vice President for Research and Technology Mohd Hizzat Mohd Shah said the association consistently works with airlines to introduce promotional fares during each MATTA Fair to boost consumer interest.
He explained that airfare remains a key component in travel costs, and reductions in ticket prices significantly enhance the attractiveness of tourism packages.
“When airfare becomes more affordable, travel packages become more competitive, encouraging more people to plan trips,” he said.
He was speaking after the launch of MATTA Fair Kelantan.
He also pointed to the success of the recent MATTA Fair at the Pusat Perdagangan dan Pameran Antarabangsa Malaysia, which attracted around 300,000 visitors, as evidence of the effectiveness of this approach.
Beyond sales, MATTA Fair serves as a key industry platform, bringing together tourism players nationwide to promote destinations and travel offerings.
Collaboration with Tourism Malaysia across multiple states further strengthens industry participation and expands promotional reach.
At the same time, MATTA is enhancing industry oversight through the TRUST system, allowing travel agencies to submit reports directly to the Kementerian Pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya Malaysia.
The system is expected to improve transparency, accelerate enforcement actions and build greater consumer confidence in tourism services.
Overall, the combined approach of competitive pricing, active promotion and stronger governance is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring the success of Visit Malaysia 2026.
