Anwar Rejects Claims of Stolen Funds Moved to Africa, Calls Allegations Baseless
JOHOR BAHRU, April 24 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed allegations that he instructed a former officer to move stolen funds to Africa, challenging those behind the claims to produce evidence.
He described the accusations as baseless and said they do not merit attention without credible proof.
Refuses to Entertain Unsubstantiated Claims
Anwar said he would not respond to every allegation circulating on social media, particularly when they are unsupported by facts.
He noted that such claims, if left unchecked, could contribute to the spread of misinformation.
Viral Video Sparks Controversy
The remarks came in response to a widely circulated 49-second video featuring an individual identified as Sofia Rini Buyong, who made several allegations involving Anwar and a former officer.
Among the claims were assertions that stolen funds had been moved to Africa and that the officer possessed unexplained wealth amounting to billions of ringgit.
No Evidence Presented So Far
No supporting evidence has been provided in connection with the allegations, raising doubts about their credibility.
Anwar stressed that serious accusations must be backed by verifiable proof before they can be taken seriously.
Opposition Figures Call for Probe
Several opposition politicians from Parti Islam Se-Malaysia and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia have reportedly called for an investigation into the claims.
However, there has been no official update on any such probe.
Calls for Responsible Information Sharing
Anwar emphasised the need for responsible communication, warning that spreading unverified allegations could undermine public trust and create unnecessary confusion.
He urged all parties to ensure that information shared publicly is accurate and supported by evidence.
