Young Man Seriously Injured After Alleged Assault Linked to Dispute Over Woman in Cheras
KUALA LUMPUR: A 21-year-old man was left seriously injured after he was allegedly assaulted by the brothers of a female acquaintance during an early morning confrontation at a flat in Cheras, in an incident now under police investigation.
The altercation, which took place at Flat Sri Pulau Pinang on Saturday, is believed to have stemmed from a dispute in which the suspects allegedly accused the victim of disturbing their younger sister.
According to investigators, the victim had gone to the residential area to meet the woman before the situation escalated into violence.
Initial findings suggest the victim was seated inside a car while the woman was preparing to get in when two men, believed to be her brothers, approached the vehicle.
The pair allegedly opened the car door and forcibly pulled the victim out before assaulting him.
Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said police received a report regarding the incident at 3.33am on July 18.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the alleged assault was motivated by the suspects’ dissatisfaction over the victim’s relationship or interactions with their younger sister.
“The victim sustained serious injuries to his nose, eyes and head and is currently receiving further treatment at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz,” Mohd Rosdi said in a statement on Tuesday.
Following the report, officers from the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division of the Cheras district police headquarters launched an operation that led to the arrest of two local men, aged 21 and 22, at about 5.22am on the same day.
Both suspects are believed to have been directly involved in the assault.
The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt without the use of a weapon.
Police confirmed that the suspects were remanded for three days to facilitate investigations before being released on police bail after the remand period expired.
Mohd Rosdi said investigators believe several other individuals may also have been involved in the incident, and efforts are continuing to determine the extent of each person’s role.
The investigation paper is currently being finalised before being submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further legal directions.
Police have not disclosed whether the victim and the woman knew each other personally beyond confirming that they were acquaintances.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward as investigations continue to establish the full sequence of events.
The case remains under investigation, and no charges have been announced at this stage. As with all criminal investigations, those arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
