Wan Rosdy Urges Guan Eng Not to Escalate Tensions Within Unity Government
KUANTAN — Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail has cautioned Lim Guan Eng against making statements that could further strain ties within Malaysia’s Unity Government, following remarks questioning the reliability of United Malays National Organisation and Barisan Nasional as coalition partners.
The UMNO vice-president said comments that could provoke tensions or deepen political disagreements would not help ongoing efforts by leaders from both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan to maintain cooperation and address current political challenges.
Call for Political Maturity
Wan Rosdy stressed that all parties within the Unity Government should act responsibly and professionally for the sake of political stability and public interest.
He said although differing opinions may exist between leaders from various parties, the priority should remain on strengthening cooperation instead of creating further friction.
According to him, statements that fuel distrust among coalition partners could complicate efforts to preserve stability within the administration.
“As senior leaders, the responsibility should be to unite and strengthen the Unity Government rather than issue remarks that may damage relations among component parties,” he said in a statement.
Response to Guan Eng’s Remarks
Wan Rosdy’s response came after Guan Eng reportedly described UMNO and BN as unreliable partners in the Unity Government and urged voters to reject them in future elections.
The remarks were linked to recent political developments in Negeri Sembilan involving discussions surrounding the position of Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun.
Guan Eng had reportedly claimed the episode reflected a willingness among certain parties to prioritise political interests over broader national concerns.
Stability Must Remain Priority
Wan Rosdy said Malaysians are more concerned about political stability, governance and solutions to economic and social challenges rather than prolonged political disputes.
He added that leaders from all coalition parties should avoid unnecessary provocations that could undermine public confidence in the Unity Government.
According to him, maintaining mutual respect and constructive engagement remains important in ensuring the coalition administration continues functioning effectively amid current challenges.
