UMNO’s “Rumah Bangsa” initiative gains traction as over 6,000 members return

KUANTAN, April 18 — Efforts to consolidate Malay political unity under UMNO’s “Rumah Bangsa” initiative are gaining momentum, with more than 6,000 former members rejoining the party to date.

Vice president Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the encouraging response reflects growing acceptance of the party’s more open and inclusive approach toward former members.

Inclusive policy drives return of members

He explained that the initiative allows individuals who were previously suspended, dismissed or who left the party voluntarily to reapply without facing restrictive conditions.

This strategy is seen as a deliberate effort to rebuild unity and strengthen UMNO’s position as a central platform for Malay political representation.

Leadership direction key to revival

Wan Rosdy credited the party’s renewed direction to its president, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, whose leadership emphasises reconciliation and inclusivity.

He said this shift in tone has played a significant role in encouraging former members to return and contribute to the party’s rebuilding process.

Strong grassroots response

At the grassroots level, interest in rejoining UMNO continues to grow, with Wan Rosdy noting that even within his own division, several individuals have already expressed their intention to return.

He expects the number to rise further as outreach efforts continue across the country.

Restoring confidence among supporters

The return of thousands of members is widely viewed as a sign that confidence in UMNO is gradually being restored, particularly among Malays seeking political stability and unity.

Wan Rosdy stressed that such consolidation is crucial for the party as it prepares to face future political challenges.

Economic platforms complement political engagement

He made the remarks after officiating the closing of the Malaysia East Coast Trade and Entrepreneur Expo 2026, which brought together entrepreneurs and community stakeholders.

Organised in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), the event also provided opportunities for engagement between leaders and the public.

Overall, the Rumah Bangsa initiative is emerging as a key strategy in revitalising UMNO’s structure while strengthening its grassroots support base.
