Teo Urges Respectful Campaigning After Reports of Vandalism Targeting PH Election Materials

KULAI: Johor DAP chairman Teo Nie Ching has called on all political parties and campaign workers to uphold a peaceful and respectful election environment following reports of vandalism involving Pakatan Harapan (PH) campaign materials in several constituencies ahead of the Johor state election.

Speaking after attending the Kalapadam MINNALfm Musical Programme and the Safe Internet Campaign Carnival in Kulai, Teo expressed disappointment over incidents that allegedly targeted PH campaign assets, saying such actions were inconsistent with efforts to promote a healthy democratic process.

According to her, reports of damaged or disrupted campaign materials have emerged from several locations, including areas within the Kulai parliamentary constituency, where tents and election materials belonging to the PH candidate for the Bukit Permai state seat were allegedly vandalised.

She said similar incidents had also been reported in the Mengkibol and Kluang state constituencies, as well as several other locations across Johor during the ongoing election campaign.

Teo noted that campaigning has entered a more active phase as polling day approaches, but stressed that political competition should remain professional and conducted within the principles of mutual respect.

She expressed hope that campaign teams from all political parties would continue to maintain a peaceful atmosphere throughout the election period, in line with the aspiration for mature and responsible political engagement.

Her remarks came after PH Bukit Permai candidate Mohamad Shafwan Ani alleged that campaign buntings displayed in Bandar Putra had been covered with materials belonging to another election candidate.

Separately, police have opened an investigation following reports involving damaged party flags and election posters belonging to PH within the Mengkibol state constituency.

Despite the reported incidents, Teo said she remained confident that voters would continue evaluating political parties based on their performance and commitment to public service rather than campaign-related provocations.

She said DAP’s focus remains on serving local communities and fulfilling its responsibilities at both the state and federal levels while continuing to engage with voters from all backgrounds throughout the campaign period.

Pakatan Harapan is contesting all 56 seats in the 16th Johor State Election, with early voting scheduled for 7 July and polling day on 11 July.

Teo said maintaining a peaceful election environment would benefit both voters and candidates by allowing public attention to remain focused on policies, governance and issues affecting the people rather than unnecessary acts of political sabotage.
