Putrajaya Canoe Marathon 2026 Draws 128 Participants, Boosting Malaysia’s Water Sports Scene

PUTRAJAYA: The Putrajaya Canoe Marathon 2026 concluded successfully at the Water Sports Complex in Presint 6, reinforcing the federal administrative capital’s growing reputation as a key venue for competitive water sports in Malaysia.

Organised by Perbadanan Putrajaya in collaboration with the Putrajaya Canoe Association, the event attracted 128 participants from Terengganu, Pahang, Johor and the Klang Valley. The turnout reflected increasing enthusiasm for canoe marathon racing among both seasoned athletes and community participants.

This year’s edition featured three main categories: K2 Open, TK2 Under-21 and SOT2 Community. The range of categories allowed for broader participation, catering to experienced paddlers, emerging youth talents and members of the local community.

The K2 Open category delivered intense competition, with pairs demonstrating strong paddling techniques, effective coordination and strategic endurance management throughout the race. Synchronisation and stamina proved critical as competitors navigated the course around Putrajaya Lake.

The TK2 Under-21 category served as an important development platform for young paddlers aiming to build their competitive credentials. Participation from youth athletes highlighted ongoing efforts to nurture the next generation of canoeists, offering them valuable exposure to structured competition settings.

Meanwhile, the SOT2 Community category added a vibrant dimension to the event by encouraging wider public involvement. Although less elite in nature, the category maintained a competitive spirit while promoting inclusivity and active participation.

The Water Sports Complex at Presint 6, equipped with modern facilities, provided an ideal setting for the marathon. Its infrastructure ensured smooth event management and participant safety, further establishing Putrajaya as a suitable host for large-scale sporting events.

Beyond competition, the Putrajaya Canoe Marathon 2026 aligned with broader initiatives to promote healthy lifestyles and maximise the use of Putrajaya Lake as a recreational and sporting asset. The event also facilitated networking and experience-sharing among athletes from different states, contributing to the strengthening of Malaysia’s canoeing community.

With strong participation and positive reception, the marathon is expected to remain a key fixture in Malaysia’s water sports calendar. The success of the 2026 edition signals continued momentum in the development of canoe racing, while reinforcing Putrajaya’s status as a dynamic hub for aquatic sporting events.
