PAS in Perlis to Continue Backing Bersatu Pending PN’s Decision
ARAU: PAS in Perlis will continue supporting Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia within the state administration until the leadership of Perikatan Nasional issues an official decision regarding the coalition’s future direction following recent developments in the relationship between the two parties.
Perlis PN chairman Shahidan Kassim said the state government remains stable and continues to operate normally despite political changes taking place at the national level.
According to him, the administration’s priority remains focused on public welfare, development initiatives and delivering services to the people rather than political manoeuvring.
“The government in Perlis was formed under the PN banner, and our administration continues to function as usual. Our main concern remains the welfare of the people,” he said.
Shahidan was commenting on PAS’ recent announcement that it had ended its political cooperation with Bersatu and would explore new political arrangements moving forward.
He noted that the situation in Perlis differs from national political developments because the state government was established through the PN coalition, which still retains a strong governing mandate.
As such, he said PAS in Perlis will continue honouring the existing coalition framework until a formal directive is issued by PN’s central leadership.
The veteran politician stressed that there is no disruption to governance and that state leaders remain committed to ensuring continuity in administration and public services.
During the 15th General Election, PN secured an overwhelming majority in the Perlis State Legislative Assembly, enabling it to form the state government with a comfortable mandate.
The current composition of the assembly continues to be dominated by PAS and Bersatu representatives, although several seats involving PAS assemblymen remain subject to ongoing legal proceedings related to party membership issues.
Shahidan said residents should not be concerned about the evolving political landscape, as the state government remains committed to carrying out its responsibilities.
He emphasised that welfare programmes, development projects and assistance initiatives will continue regardless of political developments at the national level.
“Whatever happens politically, our commitment to serving the people and safeguarding their welfare remains unchanged,” he said.
He added that any future decision regarding the relationship between PAS and Bersatu in Perlis would ultimately depend on the direction determined by PN’s national leadership.
