Missing Teen Afiqah Found Safe in Jeram After Seeking Help to Charge Phone

PETALING JAYA, April 27 — A 15-year-old girl reported missing from her home in Desa Petaling has been found safe in Jeram, Selangor, bringing relief to her family and the public who had been following the case closely.

According to Mohd Rosdi Daud, the teenager, identified as Afiqah Abdul Aziz, was located at approximately 9.15am at a residence in Kampung Bukit Kuching Tengah.

He said the girl had approached a local resident’s home to seek permission to charge her mobile phone, a move that ultimately led to her being recognised.

“The resident realised that the teenager matched the description of the missing person reported earlier and promptly contacted her family and the police after seeing information circulated on social media,” he said in a statement.

Afiqah was subsequently brought to the Cheras district police headquarters for documentation and further checks before being safely reunited with her family.

Authorities expressed appreciation to members of the public for their vigilance and cooperation, which played a crucial role in ensuring the teenager’s safe return.

“The cooperation and concern shown by the public greatly assisted in locating the missing individual within a short period,” Mohd Rosdi added.

The case had gained attention after Afiqah was reported missing last Friday from the Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) Sri Malaysia in Desa Petaling.

Earlier reports indicated that her sister, known as Aida, claimed to have heard cries for help before the teenager disappeared. Afiqah, the youngest of six siblings, was said to have left the house at around 6pm on the day of the incident.

The disappearance quickly went viral on social media, with users sharing her photos and appealing for information on her whereabouts.

Police had confirmed receiving a report regarding her disappearance and initiated efforts to trace her location.

The swift resolution of the case highlights the impact of public awareness and the role of digital platforms in mobilising assistance during emergencies.

Authorities have not indicated any criminal elements linked to the case at this stage, but standard procedures, including interviews and welfare checks, were carried out before Afiqah was handed back to her family.
