MACC Intensifies Monitoring of Johor Poll Candidates, Opens Five 24-Hour Operations Rooms
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will step up monitoring of candidates, political parties and election-related activities throughout the Johor state election to ensure the democratic process remains free from corruption, abuse of power and other electoral offences.
The commission has reminded all contesting candidates and political parties to fully comply with election laws and avoid any conduct that could violate the MACC Act 2009 or the Election Offences Act 1954 (Amendment 2012).
According to the anti-graft agency, strict enforcement action will be taken whenever credible evidence of corruption, vote-buying, abuse of authority or other election-related offences is uncovered.
In a statement issued today, the MACC stressed that every report or piece of information received would be assessed and investigated professionally, transparently and in accordance with the law.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the Johor state election by ensuring investigations are conducted impartially and without interference.
To strengthen public participation in monitoring the election process, the Johor MACC will activate five dedicated operations rooms to receive complaints and intelligence relating to corruption and abuse of power throughout the election period.
The operations rooms will begin operating around the clock from nomination day on June 27 until polling day on July 11.
The initiative is intended to provide members of the public with accessible channels to report suspected electoral misconduct while enabling enforcement officers to respond more quickly to information received.
The five operations rooms will be located at the Johor MACC headquarters in Tampoi as well as branch offices in Batu Pahat, Kluang, Segamat and Mersing.
MACC said the facilities are expected to enhance cooperation between enforcement authorities and the public in preserving transparency during the election campaign.
Members of the public may contact the Johor operations room through 07-2316170 or the 24-hour hotline at 011-61349460 to submit information or lodge complaints.
For matters involving the Kluang branch, reports can be made via 07-7714610 or the dedicated 24-hour line at 018-7101040.
Complaints relating to corruption or abuse of power may also be submitted electronically through the official email address [email protected].
The commission emphasised that public cooperation remains essential in combating electoral corruption and ensuring the Johor state election is conducted in a transparent, fair and accountable manner.
