MACC Arrests 36 Senior Civil Servants in RM22 Million Bribery Scandal, Home Ministry Tightens Integrity Measures

KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested 36 senior civil servants linked to bribery cases involving more than RM22 million, prompting the Home Ministry to introduce stricter measures to strengthen integrity within enforcement agencies.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said 20 of the cases have been prosecuted, while eight have resulted in convictions so far.

He said the cases highlight the government’s commitment to combating corruption, especially among high-ranking officials.

Zero-tolerance policy to protect institutional integrity

Shamsul Anuar said the Home Ministry has implemented a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and misconduct.

He stressed that strict disciplinary and legal action will be taken regardless of rank if sufficient evidence exists.

He said this approach is necessary to maintain public trust.

Technology introduced to prevent abuse of power

The ministry is also expanding the use of technology, including body-worn cameras, to improve transparency.

He said such tools can help prevent abuse and enhance accountability.

He added that the move will strengthen confidence in enforcement agencies.

SPINE system strengthens governance framework

The Home Ministry is also supporting the implementation of the Integrity and Governance Management System (SPINE).

The system serves as a self-assessment tool to evaluate integrity and governance practices.

Shamsul Anuar said SPINE will help improve transparency and efficiency in public service.

He said strengthening governance remains a key priority in fighting corruption.
