Lucid Unveils Midsize EV Platform, Introduces Cosmos and Earth in Profitability Strategy

NEWARK, Calif., March 12 — American electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid Group Inc. has unveiled a comprehensive product and financial strategy aimed at accelerating its path toward profitability while expanding its presence in the global premium electric vehicle market.

The announcement was made during Lucid Investor Day 2026 in New York, where the company shared key technical and strategic details about its upcoming Midsize vehicle platform, which is expected to play a central role in Lucid’s long-term growth strategy.

During the event, Lucid also revealed the names of the first two models that will be built on the new platform — Lucid Cosmos and Lucid Earth — marking a major step in the company’s plan to enter higher-volume premium vehicle segments.

Strategic Plan to Achieve Profitability

Lucid said its updated business strategy focuses on several key pillars, including expanding manufacturing scale, improving cost efficiency, diversifying revenue streams and maintaining strict capital discipline.

The company also intends to generate recurring revenue through software services, mobility solutions, platform licensing and partnerships in the autonomous mobility sector.

Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff said Lucid has already demonstrated its strength in technological innovation and product development, but the company is now placing greater emphasis on building a sustainable and profitable business model.

According to him, Lucid will maintain its core product DNA while improving capital efficiency, scaling production and implementing stronger cost discipline.

These efforts, he said, are designed to accelerate the company’s path toward profitability and positive free cash flow.

Advancing Partnership with Uber

Lucid also highlighted progress in its ongoing discussions with Uber, as the companies work to finalize an agreement to deploy vehicles based on the Midsize platform in autonomous mobility networks.

The potential partnership could see Lucid vehicles deployed at a scale comparable to the company’s Gravity robotaxi program, with the possibility of expanding deployment over time.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said Lucid’s exceptional efficiency, autonomy-ready vehicle architecture and customer-focused design make it a strong strategic partner for the future of autonomous mobility.

Introducing the Lunar Robotaxi Concept

In addition to its consumer vehicles, Lucid introduced a new two-seat robotaxi concept called Lunar, which is built on the Midsize platform.

The concept vehicle is designed specifically for autonomous mobility applications, with an emphasis on operational efficiency, high vehicle utilization and optimized lifetime operating economics.

Although Lunar remains a concept for now, it demonstrates how the Midsize platform could support future commercial mobility solutions such as autonomous ride-hailing services.

Operational Priorities for 2026

For 2026, Lucid said it will focus on scaling production of the Lucid Gravity, expanding its global market reach and accelerating development of software services and digital technologies.

At the same time, the company will intensify efforts to improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce material costs in order to shorten the timeline toward positive free cash flow.

Chief Financial Officer Taoufiq Boussaid said Lucid’s strategy also includes expanding revenue sources through software platforms, service offerings, technology licensing and partnerships within the autonomous mobility ecosystem.

According to him, these initiatives will help strengthen Lucid’s financial foundation while supporting long-term growth.

Cosmos and Earth Target Broader Premium Segment

Lucid’s new Midsize platform has been engineered to deliver premium electric vehicles at a more accessible price point.

The company said vehicles built on the platform are expected to start at below US$50,000, enabling Lucid to compete in a larger premium segment with higher production volumes.

The Lucid Cosmos will be an SUV designed to offer strong efficiency, spacious interior design and high performance.

Meanwhile, Lucid Earth is aimed at customers seeking a more adventurous driving experience while maintaining the efficiency and driving dynamics that define the Lucid brand.

The company also confirmed that a third consumer model based on the Midsize platform will be revealed in the future.

Atlas Electric Drive Unit

Lucid also introduced its next-generation electric drive system known as the Atlas drive unit, which has been engineered to deliver improved efficiency while lowering production costs.

The new drive unit features a smaller, lighter and simpler design, with identical front and rear housings that simplify manufacturing and improve scalability.

Senior Vice President of Engineering and Software Emad Dlala said Lucid’s industry-leading efficiency allows the company to achieve competitive driving range using smaller battery packs.

This is a significant advantage because batteries typically account for 30 to 40 per cent of the total cost of an electric vehicle.

Through its integrated engineering approach, Lucid believes it can deliver electric vehicles that combine high performance, efficiency and cost competitiveness, positioning the company to compete more effectively against both electric and traditional combustion-powered vehicles in the global market.
