Lan Solo’s Reconciliation Attempt With Rody Falls Short, Kristal OG Concert Moves Forward Without Reunion
KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — Singer Lan Solo has revealed that his efforts to mend ties with Kristal’s lead guitarist, Rody, have not been successful, casting doubt on the possibility of a full reunion for the upcoming Kristal OG concert.
Lan, whose real name is Muhammad Razlan Mohamed Yusof, said he took the initiative to set aside personal differences in hopes of rebuilding their relationship and exploring collaboration for the band’s 25th anniversary concert.
He shared that Rody was the first person he reached out to after receiving the concert proposal, recognising the guitarist’s significant role in shaping the band’s identity.
“I wanted us to meet and discuss things face-to-face since it has been a long time. But the response I received was not encouraging,” he said during a recent press conference.
Repeated Delays Stall Communication Efforts
According to Lan, attempts to arrange a meeting were met with repeated postponements over several months. He noted that responses from Rody were vague and often accompanied by reasons related to a busy schedule.
“From June until almost August last year, the replies were mostly along the lines of ‘I’ll think about it’. Eventually, I decided to stop reaching out,” he said.
Due to their lack of contact over the years, Lan had to obtain Rody’s phone number through his younger brother, Acap, before attempting to initiate communication.
Initially, his calls went unanswered, likely because the number was unfamiliar. However, Rody later contacted him via WhatsApp to verify his identity, after which Lan explained his intention to reconnect and discuss the concert.
Disappointment Balanced With Respect
Despite the outcome, Lan emphasised that he respects Rody’s stance and does not intend to force any collaboration.
He acknowledged feeling disappointed, particularly because his efforts were driven not only by personal reconciliation but also by the desire to fulfil fans’ hopes of seeing the original members reunite on stage.
“I set aside my ego because I felt this was the right time. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned,” he said.
Focus Shifts to Upcoming Concert
With reunion plans uncertain, Lan is now focusing on delivering the Kristal OG concert scheduled to take place at Zepp Kuala Lumpur on May 1.
He views the event as an opportunity to celebrate the band’s legacy and connect with fans, even if it proceeds without the full original lineup.
“I accept that not everything works out as we hope. For now, my priority is to move forward and make the concert a success,” he added.
For context, tensions between Lan and Rody are believed to have started in 2017 following Lan’s participation in the reality show Gegar Vaganza Season 4, which eventually led to his temporary removal from the band before his departure from Kristal.
